Choosing The Right Baby Mattress
Shopping for the right baby mattress is pretty important.
Babies spend a lot of time in their crib and a good quality
mattress can make a big difference in the quality of their
rest.
You may struggle each night with a poor quality mattress,
and it could be a big reason why you're not getting a good
night's sleep. When you don't get enough quality rest; it's
hard not to feel tired and cranky. And it can also lead to a
weakened immune system. Babies are no different.
Size is always important when shopping for a baby mattress,
but there are a few other things to consider as well. Some
people prefer the ones that have a slick cover on them, so that
night-time accidents will not penetrate into the mattress.
However, these can be a bit uncomfortable to sleep on, and even
the best of these wear down over time.
If you don't want one of the plastic-coated baby mattresses,
you can buy under pads that have cloth on one side and plastic
on the other. These offer almost the same amount of protection
during the potty training or bed-wetting years. And since
they're made of cloth, they are much more comfortable.
Thickness is another important consideration when buying a
baby mattress. You really want something that fits your crib or
toddler bed with not much extra room on any side, including how
it fits height-wise.
Many children get injured in cribs and beds because the
mattress isn't thick or wide enough. This often happens when
the mattress didn't come with the bed, or had to be replaced
for some reason. Take these things into account when shopping
for a new baby mattress. Safety is every bit as important as
comfort.
One last consideration when buying a baby mattress is
something that you might not think about until after you've
bought the mattress. You have to be able to find sheets that
fit the bed securely. You don't want them coming off the
mattress while the baby is sleeping.
Children move around a lot, and that calls for a securely
fitted sheet. Some baby mattress sizes are hard to find sheets
for, and that can make things difficult for you. You're usually
better off finding a size that you know has plenty of sheets
available where you regularly shop. If not, make sure you can
find them online if you do choose an odd size or shape. By
planning ahead, you'll avoid a whole lot of stress.
